Binnenste Buiten started as a school project commissioned by Theaterfestival Boulevard in 's-Hertogenbosch. When our team was chosen to realise our concept to be exhibited at their festival we happily agreed, and spent our summer building the installation. In addition to the theatre festival, Binnenste buiten was also exhibited at the Makerfaire in Eindhoven.

Concept
The goal of Binnenste Buiten is to confront the visitor, and to let them reflect on their surroundings and themselves. Are you aware of yourself? Of your body and the way it moves? Of others?
The installation consists of mirrors and sound that responds to the movement of the visitor using a Kinect and Arduino. The mirrors follow your every move, making it impossible to escape yourself. The audio poses questions, scares you, or makes you laugh.
When multiple people stand in front of the installation, only one person is followed by the mirrors. This only exemplifies the feeling of being watched, of feeling vulnerable and exposed. The visitors are turned inside out (binnenstebuiten in Dutch).
My role
During the project I was a big part of concept development, prototyping and testing. In the later stages of the project, when we had to realise our prototype into an actual working installation, I was in charge of the branding/graphic design as well as building the installation together with the team. I also created the website for our project.
